What is Trendy Hospitality?

First, let’s lay out the basics.  What is hospitality?  And what does trendy mean?

Hospitality – the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers

Trendy – up to date in style or influence

So how did Trendy Hospitality come about?  Well, I have been in several of the Facebook vacation rental owner’s groups for quite a while.  I see lots of folks (maybe even you) asking questions about websites, social media, reviews, digital marketing, etc.  

Wouldn’t this be much easier if I could teach other owners how to be successful with their own digital marketing strategy?  Of course!  So, here we are.

What IS the KEY to vacation rental success?  I have given this a lot of thought and here is my conclusion.

The key to today’s vacation rental success is to provide a better guest experience by combining old-fashioned hospitality and trendy technology.

And so, Trendy Hospitality was born. 

How does it work?

The proven marketing strategy behind Trendy Hospitality is this…

Build a relationship (that’s the Hospitality part) with your audience using technology (that’s the Trendy part) to free up some of your time and provide an easier and more pleasant booking experience for your guests. 

Your audience:

  • future guests
  • Facebook fans
  • Instagram followers
  • inquiries
  • previous guests
  • current guests
  • …basically anyone you are trying to reach with your marketing message.

In order to build that relationship, you need to speak directly to them (not AT them).  Use as many tools as you can fit into your marketing toolbox budget. You can start by visiting my Tools & Resources page.

Your marketing messages must be meaningful and consistent in order to be effective. 

Social media algorithms are complicated.  The main thing to remember is they want you to pay for ads.  In short, if your social media posts are sales ads for your property, they won’t reach nearly as many people. 

“Tell, don’t sell” is what you should be thinking each time you create a post.

Automating Your Processes

Automation can be a business boon or a business killer.

Here are a few tips for how Trendy Hospitality’s marketing theory will work for automating your booking processes. 

Most of the vacation rental management software contains options for automating your guest booking emails.  

Owners frequently get it all wrong by only putting in the basic information.

  • “Your dates 1/1/1 are confirmed”
  • “Here is your door code 1234”
  • “I received your payment”
  • “Leave a review”

That doesn’t sound very hospitable, does it?  Automation should not be robotic.  

Your automated messages should be written to a specific person.

“Gosh, I don’t have time to write a personal message to every single guest for every single email I send.”

Right!  If you know who your “ideal guest” is, it’s easy to automate your responses in a way that is personalized — without causing you extra time.
